INTRODUCTION

"The legions of Shadow have been released. Just as it was long ago, the one who possesses the Grimoire of the Gunslingers must overcome the all consuming menace of the Shadows by reclaiming the secrets of the grimoire and using the knowledge revealed to overcome the forces that seek to plunge the universe into formless chaos and death. I am that grimoire and I guard existence. Unfortunately for existence, the gunslinger that holds the grimoire is Cage Kblam; the same selfish… person that unleashed the shadows in his doomed attempt to skip the rest of his training and make a grab for power. …or was it to impress his crush? I don’t even know anymore. Cage says a lot of things. Look, I have to save all of existence from a chaotic, hellish fate by somehow wrangling this psychotic little monster into doing the right thing and sealing away the legions of Shadow that he unwittingly freed. I could use some help."

OVERVIEW

Urged on by the sentient grimoire and not given much of a choice, the gunslinger, Cage Kblam, will reluctantly attempt to descend into the realm of the shadows, passing through levels of catacombs and dungeons on their way to confront and seal away the all consuming menace. Using Cage’s skill with a gun and ability to wield powerful magic enhanced by the grimoire, they must overcome the forces opposing them. Along the way, they collect the essences of defeated shadow adversaries and alchemically alter them to bolster their strength and reveal knowledge hidden within the grimoire itself. Should they be defeated, the Grimoire of the Gunslingers will use its abilities to return time to the moment just after the seal was broken and the shadows were released from their captivity. The grimoire and the gunslinger keep their memories; they get stronger; they try again… one of them complains a lot.

Great little game, just seeing a fantasy final mage looking character with a gun was delightful enough. Mage powers were an added bonus

I had fun making that character styled after Black Mage from 8-bit Theater / Final Fantasy; I’m delighted you noticed. I always thought it would be fun to control a character in a game that could cast a massively overpowered “HADOKEN” like in 8-bit Theater. Thanks for playing and the feedback!

good game! feels good to play bugs:

  • if you keep holding middle mouse and run out of mana, but also hold left click, you’ll shoot your regular bullets but VERY fast
  • right side enemy keeps getting stuck on the spikes there

Thanks for the feedback! Those are the next bugs on the list. I worked on this solo and learned a lot in my first time using Gamemaker and Aseprite, though not everything is perfect yet. The game is significantly planned out further from the prototype in the GDD. Thanks for playing!

Thank you for sharing that bullet bug. IMO that’s a feature not a bug. I know you said it was fast, but I still was not ready for the amount of sheer firepower that came out LOL

It’s funny, that was the initial response I had to that bug being posted. lol “Totally a feature” Though not intended at this point in the coding, the upgrading of fire rate, among other things, is supposed to eventually be part of the game. This bug occurs because of a last minute code change to fix a different issue. I must admit, I did not expect the amount of firepower either and it quickly became fun for me as well.
